Description
Zovirax (acyclovir) Cream, 5% is a herpes simplex virus (HSV) nucleoside analogue DNA polymerase inhibitor that is used for the treatment of recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) in immunocompetent adults and adolescents 12 years and older.
Benefits of taking Zovirax
This drug is used to treat “cold sores/fever blisters” (herpes labialis) and has the ability to accelerate the healing of the sores and reduce symptoms like:
-
Tingling.
-
Pain.
-
Burning.
-
Itching.
Acyclovir is an anti-viral that inhibits the growth of the virus.
Although it does not prevent a future occurrence, it does not cure herpes, and it does not prevent passing the infection to someone else. It only helps manage the symptoms.
How to take Zovirax
The cream should be administered at the first indication of infection (such as tingling, burning, redness). Prior to administering Zorivax, ensure sure the afflicted regions have been dried and cleansed, and wash your hands well.
To treat cold sores, gently massage it into the affected area 5 times per day (every 3 to 4 hours) for 4 days, being careful to cover the entire affected area.
This product is only for use on the skin. Do not apply in the eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina.
The dosage that should be taken depends on your health, the type of infection, and how your body reacts to the cream. Do not exceed the recommended cycle of treatment.
